Directions for Downloading and Saving

In general the program I am teaching about today is mxyertones.com which is a Verizon Wireless program for free ringtone and ringback downloads. The way this program works is other people with Verizon Wireless can make ringtones on their computer and submit them to this website. Through submitting a ringtone to the website other people can have the song text messaged to their phone for use as a ringtone as well. Here are the steps needed to download a ringtone to your phone:

  1. Go to myxertones.com and sign up for a free user account. To sign up myxertones will ask for your phone number, and a few general questions about you. Once those questions are answered you will choose a username and password for future downloads.
  2. Once signed into myxertones click on the explore button in the menu bar at the top of the browser. The explore tab allows you to customize your search by genre or song title. In the search bar type in the song title, or artist name or the song you would like and click search. (Ex: Jack Johnson)
  3. When the search results come up they can be hard to understand. First there is a picture which sometimes is the CD cover and sometimes is a random picture from the person who uploaded the song. Second it says the title, which can be whatever the person who uploaded the song wants it to be, so it may take some searching to find the right song. Last it says by, which may not be the artists name so look closely. Click on the picture to get more information about the song.
  4. Once on a particular song you can click PLAY (which is a triangle) to listen to the song and see if it right. Also if you look on the right hand side of the browser below where is says “Send to my phone” it says “customize” if you click on this it will let you pick the part of the song you want to download. (sometimes the person who added the song however does not upload the whole thing)
  5. CUSTOMIZE: once you have clicked on this it will say “which part of the song would you like to use for a ringtone?” Below that statement a section will come up that you can move the lines around a pick the part of the song you want.(Below is what the bar will look like that you can use to pick the part of the song you want)copyright 2007 myxer- screenshot of customized section
  6. After you have customized the ringtone scroll to the bottom of the page where it says “What would you like to do?” and click on Send to Phone
  7. It will then ask you for your cell phone number (or just send it if your number is already programmed in). The ringtone is sent in the form of a text message. FYI: sometimes the website will take a few days to actually get this text message file sent to you so be patient.

Once you receive the text message, programming the song to a ringtone on a LG-VX8300:

  1. When you receive the text message open it by hitting the menu button first. Then scroll one to the left until you are in the message section. Go down to Inbox and click on it. Then click the center button again when the text message you want is highlighted.
  2. Once the text message is open it will immediately start playing, listen to the song and make sure it is good quality or what you wanted. Next click the option button on your key pad. Scroll down to Save as Ringtone and hit OK. Name the song whatever you want (ex: Jack Johnson Better is One day) and click OK again. You have now saved the song as a ringtone.
  3. Now to program this song to be your main ringtone: Click the menu button and scroll over until you are in the Settings & Tools section. Scroll down to Sounds Settings and click OK. In Sound Settings scroll down to Call Sounds and click OK. In call sounds click OK on #1-call ringtone. At this point you are going to click on the option you want to program it can be either #1caller ID, #2 no caller ID, #3 restricted calls, #4 all calls. Once you click OK it will take you to a list of all the generic tones your phone comes with. At the top of that list will be the song(s) you had saved as a ringtone, scroll down to the song you want and click OK. You have just saved the song as your ringtone! Have someone call you to test it out!

I hope this helped you learn how to better personalize your cell phone through ringtones of your choice. Although there may seem like a lot of steps it is actually a very easy process. Through this lesson I hope you have learned how to download songs from the internet as well as better navigate your cell phone by choosing your ringtone. If you have any questions please visit the HELP section of myxertones.com to find support. Also if you want other programs to download ringtones please visit Verizon Wireless’s home page and click on SUPPORT (you can also look up other phones if you do not have the LG-VX8300).
